I love checking out the buildings that are open to the public during the Melbourne Open House weekend. Unfortunately this year I could only manage two buildings because I had to pack for a trip to South Africa.
RMIT Design Hub
I still remember the first time I saw it. On the corner of Victoria and Swanston St is this large box covered in circular glass panels, some of which were angled allowing varying amounts of light in. What intrigued me even further was the lack of corporate branding, it was minimalist and beautiful. It was only at night that I realised it was a RMIT building when the subtle neon logo became visible through the glass exterior. I have added links below to the architect's site and to the universities' page.
J Substation
Although this is a working substation the passage of time and therefore technological development has meant that many areas within the building aren't being used. The control room hasn't been operational for the last 30 years.
